Link Building Strategies
This post will focus on three types of linking which includes: internal linking, external linking and backlinking. This is the third post in a series I am doing on getting your website to rank higher in the search engines. How important are web links? Website linking is the main way we find additional information on related topics we are searching for. Keeping this in mind, you must remember to maintain relevance to the topic of your website before starting a linking campaign. All three types of linking are important and should be used. Here is brief description of each linking method:
* Internal Website Linking – these are the links located inside your website that point to articles you have already written. By using internal linking you are essentially giving the search engines a heads up where the important information is located. In addition, this will give readers of your website helpful information on related articles you have already written.
* External Website Linking – these are the links that are on your website and point to external websites. When you point from your website to an external website you are giving your support or approval for that particular website. An external link has often been considered to be more effective than an internal link because you are endorsing a third party. By pointing to third party sites that are considered to be an “authority” you provide your readers with additional quality information.
* Backlinking – these are links that point from other websites back to your website. The number of backlinks to your website is another indicator to search engines on the importance of your website. The easiest way to get backlinks is to add comments on blogs that are associated with your websites topic. Most blogs that offer commenting will allow you to leave a link back to your website. If you add relevant content while commenting you will likely gain some traffic back to your website.
